Bartholomew, William Newton (1822-1898) Landscape painter, sketch artish Born in Boston, Mass on Feb 13th 1822, Bartholomew was a self taught artist who accompanied a daguerreotyping expedition to California during 1850-52 Returning to Boston, he taught drawing in public schools from 1852-71. He made several hundred daguerreotypes of Calfiornia and its mining towns, and after returning to the East, painted a huge panorama made from sketches of these daguerreotypes which he exhibited in Boston and other eastern cities. He died in Newton Centre, Mass in 1896. His works are held in the California HIstorical Society
