McMeekin, Jospeh Patrick - Off Calif Coast 1928
Mc Meekin, Joseph Patrick (1857-1936) Painter. Born in Dublin, Ireland on April 6, 1857. McMeeking learned to paint in his native land from an itinerant English Artist. He came to America with his family in 1872, settling in Utah. Later, Idaho was to become his home and preferred painting locale. In 1910, he moved to Napa, CA where he painted until the end of his life. He maintained a small cottage and studio in Coombsville and often made painting excursions to Yosemite. After 1916 his bucolic landscapes earned several first prize ribbons in local shows. Living only to paint, he suffered bouts of anemia and malnutrition. He died in Napa on Feb 12, 1936. His work includes landscapes, still lifes and rural life wiht cattle and horses in oil, tempera, and gouache. Exh: World's Columbian Expo Chicago, 1893 Boise ID Fair 1896 SFAA 1911-16.
