Cox, Magaret - Yellow Roses
Cox, Margaret Herrick (1865-1950) was born in SF on June 24, 1865, the daugher of artist William F Herrick. Margaret studied at the local School of Design under Virgil Williams. Emil Carlsen, and Arthur Matthews, as well as in the studios of William Keith, Frederick Yates and Mary Curtis Richardson. She further studied at ASL in NYC and in Europe. After the earthquake in 1906, she moved across the bay to a home in Piedmont at 312 Pacific Ave and maintained a studio in Oakland at 1302 12th St. She died in Piedmont on June16, 1950. Working in oil and watercolor, she produced landscapes, portraits, figure studies, and still lifes.
